15 to 20 minutes of solo piece(s) of contrasting styles that must
include a FIRST movement from a sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven,
or Schubert.
A required orchestra excerpt (about 5 -7 min) from the Tchaikovsky
piano concerto No. 1 in B-Flat Minor, Op. 23 (1879 version) to be
announced on August 17, 2023 (two days before the Semi-Final Round).
Performance will be accompanied by the official collaborative
pianist on the second piano.

a
pianist hailing from Ufa, Russia, embarked on her musical journey at
the age of 4 under the guidance of Professor Diana Latypova at Ufa
Music School. With a profound passion for the piano, she went on to
pursue her studies at the prestigious Ufa College of Music under the
renowned Professor Lev Franck.
During her college years, Rina's exceptional skills earned her
recognition, leading her to triumph in piano competitions both
domestically and internationally. Graduating with honors from Ufa
College of Music, she furthered her education at the Moscow State
Conservatory, studying under the esteemed tutelage of Professor Yury
Hayrapetyan.
Since completing her studies, Rina has captivated audiences
worldwide with her expressive performances as a soloist and
collaborative artist. She has had the privilege of performing
alongside renowned orchestras, including the National Symphonic
Orchestra of Bashkortostan Republic and the Volgograd Philharmonic
Orchestra.
In April 2018, Rina made her international debut as a chamber artist
at the Hong Kong Philharmonic, sharing the stage with the talented
Hungarian violinist, Krístof Baràti. Her musical endeavors have also
taken her to esteemed venues such as the Sicily Academy of Music,
Music Meran Hall, and Teatro Verdi Sassari in Italy.
Currently, Rina is pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree
at the Frost School, where she also serves as a teaching assistant
in the Frost Opera Theater.

in South Korea, Sunmin Kim began playing the piano at the
age of 10. He attended the Yewon School of Arts and Seoul
Arts High School, where he studied with Kyung-Ah Kim. In
2019, he moved to Boston at age 17 to pursue further studies
at the New England Conservatory of
Music, where he met Professor HaeSun Paik. After completing
his Bachelor’s degree in Boston, he moved to New York in
2023 to study under Professor Sergei Babayan at Juilliard
School.
Sunmin has been awarded numerous prizes in prestigious piano
competitions in Korea, including the Ewha-Kyunghyang
Competition, the Korean Liszt Society Competition, the Yewon
Competition, the Sungjung Music Competition, and more. He
has also achieved success in international competitions such
as the Asia International Piano Academy Competition, and the
Korea-Asia Piano Open Competition. Sunmin was a recipient of
the Tan Family Foundation Scholarship during his studies at
the New England Conservatory.
As an active soloist, Sunmin has performed at Jordan Hall in
Boston, Poeun Art Hall in Korea, and Seongnam Arts Center
Concert Hall, among others. Internationally, he has been
invited and given recitals at the Williams Hall in Boston,
Yamaha Concert Salon Seoul, and TLi Art Center. Recently,
sponsored by the Kumho Foundation in Korea, he successfully
finished his recital as a winner of the Kumho Young Artist
Audition. Sunmin has also presented numerous chamber
performances at Jordan Hall, Brown Hall, First Church in
Cambridge, Yewon Art Hall, and Kim Young-ui Hall. He has
also participated and performed at the New Paltz Piano
Summer, Asia
International Piano Academy Festival, and Boston University Tanglewood Institute. As an choral composer, he has
collaborated with several music publishers as an associated
composer, and his choral works have been exclusively
published by J&A Music, the largest choral music publication
in Korea.
Sunmin has attended master classes with Alessio Bax, Lliya
Zilberstein, Antti Siirala, Alexander Korsantia, Nelson
Delle-Vigne Fabbri, and Jinsang Lee.

Kim is a 22-year-old pianist who began his musical journey at the
age of 6 when he discovered his love for the piano. Born and raised
in South Korea, Wanjoong attended Yewon School and Seoul Arts High
School. He didn't complete his high school years since he was
accepted to New England Conservatory during his 12th grade. Under
the guidance of Professor Bruce Brubaker at NEC, he earned his
Bachelor's degree with an outstanding academic record. He plans to
further his studies at NEC, continuing with Professor Brubaker, to
earn his Master's degree.
Throughout his studies, Wanjoong has performed with orchestras such
as Gimpo Philharmonic and Busan National Symphony Orchestra, winning
1st and Grand prizes in their competitions. In addition to his
orchestral collaborations, he has extensive experience in chamber
music. Recently, his piano quartet team, Seulmit Quartet, was
invited to Music in PyeongChang and the Seocho Chamber Festival. As
a solo pianist, he participated in Seattle Piano Institute Camp and
Colburn School Piano Festival. Wanjoong's thorough knowledge of
musical theory and virtuosic technique allows him to excel in
various genres of music, ranging from Baroque to 21st-century
compositions.

quasi Sonata (the Dante Sonata) Pianist,
Binghao Li, is a native of Shanghai, China and won First Prize in
the Philadelphia International Piano Competition. She has also won
prizes at the Marian Garcia International Piano Competition and the
Wideman International Piano Competition. Ms. Li is currently
studying with Stanislav Ioudenitch.
Ms. Li has performed in Europe, Asia and North America. She
performed at prestigious venues including Steinway Hall, Carnegie
Hall Weill Recital Hall in New York City and in 2019, she attended
the Oxford Piano Festival in England and Philadelphia Young
Pianists’ Academy in the United States.
She has participated in master classes with Gary Graffman, Dang Thai
Son, Marios Papadopoulos, Mikhail Voskresensky, and Christopher
Elton. She began her piano studies at the age of 4 under the
guidance of Natalia Filippova at the Middle School of Shanghai
Conservatory of Music and is a graduate of Ithaca College with a
Bachelor degree and received her Master degree from Mannes School of
Music in New York City.

Li, male, was born in Zhejiang, China in April 2001. He
recently graduated from New England Conservatory of Music
with his bachelor’s degree of music in Piano Performance. He
began to learn piano from his mother at the age of four. In
2013, he was admitted to Shanghai Conservatory of Music and
studied with Professor Yunlin Yang. In 2019, he was admitted
to the New England Conservatory and studied with Professor
Haesun Paik.
He has made many achievements in China and abroad, some of
which are as following: In 2015, he won the third place in
the professional youth group of the fourth German Omeil Cup
Qingdao International Piano Open.
In 2016, he won the second prize of the professional youth
group of the 16th Xinghai Cup National Children's Piano
Competition (the first prize is vacant). In February 2017,
he won the first place in the professional youth group of
the second National Youth Piano Open of the affiliated
middle school cup of Shanghai Conservatory of music. In May
2018, he won the second place in the professional youth
group of the 63rd German Gaotian Competition in China. In
July 2018, he won the third place in the concerto
professional group competition of the eighth Shenzhen Piano
Open competition Che Li has held solo and Concerto concerts
in Shanghai, Wenzhou, Hefei, California, and other places.
These include: In November 2016, he performed "Grieg Piano
Concerto in a minor" with Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra at
He Luting Concert Hall of Shanghai Conservatory of music; In
April 2017, he successfully held a solo concert in the
Conservatory of music of Wenzhou
University. On November 7, 2018, a solo concert was held in
concert hall attached to Shanghai Conservatory of Music. On
July 29, 2019, he cooperated with the Santa Monica Symphony
Orchestra in "Chopin Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor" at the
Colburn Conservatory of Music in the United States. On
September 19, 2020, the "New Star Shines in the Yangtze
River Delta" -- the concert of Zhong Hang and Che Li Chinese
young pianists studying in the United States, was held in
Hefei Grand Theater.
Che Li has participated in the exchange and study of
International Piano Master Classes for many times and
received the guidance and instruction of many
internationally renowned piano educators.
Qi Qi, China

in Guangzhou, China, Qi Qi embarked on her musical journey at the
age of five.
Presently, she is pursuing her piano studies under the esteemed
guidance of Stanislav
Ioudenitch at the Oberlin Conservatory. Qi Qi's exceptional talent
was recognized early on,
leading to her acceptance into the Central Conservatory of Music
Middle School in Beijing in
2014, where she received tutelage from Dan Shao and Jin Zhang.
Throughout her career, Qi Qi has garnered numerous accolades in
prestigious competitions,
including the first prize at the Canada Rocky Mountain Concerto
Competition and the first
and audience favorite prizes at the Kansas City Young Artist
Competition. Additionally, she
secured the first prize at both the Hong Kong International
Invitation Piano Competition and
the Open Piano Competition in Guangzhou, along with the third prize
at the esteemed
Xinghai Cup National Piano Competition.
Qi Qi's prodigious talent has afforded her the privilege of
performing alongside esteemed
orchestras such as the Kansas City Symphony, conducted by the
renowned Micheal Stern,
the Volgograd Philharmonic Orchestra, led by the Andrey Anikhanov,
the Overland Park
Orchestra, under the baton of Shah Sadikov, and the Uzbekistan
National Philharmonic
Orchestra, guided by Alibek Kabdurakhmanov.
Notably, her performances took place at distinguished venues
including the Kauffman Center
for the Performing Arts in Kansas City.
Demonstrating her commitment to artistic growth, Qi Qi has actively
participated in
prestigious piano festivals, including the Lake Como Summer Piano
School, the Minnesota
International Piano Camp, and the China-Russian School International
Piano Festival in
Shanghai. She has graced concert stages in Italy, Spain, China, and
the United States,
captivating audiences with her remarkable talent.
To further hone her craft, Qi Qi has had the privilege of attending
master classes with
revered artists such as Dmitri Bashkirov, Dang Thai Son, Andrzej
Jasiński, William Grant
Naboré, Mira Marchenko, Alexander Braginsky, Hyoung Joon Chang, and
Dan Wen Wei.
These invaluable experiences have undoubtedly enriched her musical
prowess.
Qi Qi's exceptional achievements, combined with her unwavering
dedication and artistic
finesse, have solidified her reputation as a consummate professional
in the world of piano
performance. With each captivating performance, she continues to
captivate audiences and
leave an indelible mark on the classical music landscape.
Hanwen Shi, China

Shi 石瀚文was born in Nanjing, Jiang Su province, China, in 1999 and
started to practice piano at 4. Respectively, he was mentored by a
former teacher of Nanjing Art College, then by Pianist and Professor
Wenchuan Zheng from Jiangsu Academy of Drama. In 2012, he was
admitted by Music Middle School affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory
of Music under the tutelage of Teacher Qi Zhang. From 2014, he was
supervised by Dr. Prof. Cheung-yu Mo, Director of the Piano
Department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music. In 2018, He studied at
New England Conservatory with Professor Alexander Korsantia, the
gold medal winner of the Arthur Rubinstein Piano Competition and
Sydney International Piano Competition. During these years, he
attended many music festivals such as Bowdoin, Aspen, and Morning
side Music Bridge and studied with teachers such as Krzysztof
Jablonski, Anton Nel, Fabio Bidini, Hung-kuan Chen and so on . In
2019, He was invited as a guest performer in TedxYouth @HuizhanRd. In
November same year, he was invited by Benjamin Zander, the famous
conductor of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, to participate in
the open music class. In 2020 and 2023, he was invited multiple
times to cooperated with the Nanjing Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 2013, He won the First prize in Chopin Etude group, First prize
in Beethoven Sonata group, and second prize in the free choice group
in the first Singapore International Youth Piano Competition. Same
year, He won the "16th Changjiang Cup International Youth Piano
Competition" first prize in the junior middle school group in Japan,
also the award and bonus of the Chinese Consul General in Osaka. In
2022, he attended the 7th Tbilisi international piano competition as
one of the two Chinese participants.

in Tainan City, Taiwan, Szuyu began to learn the piano at
the age of four. She earned her bachelor’s degree and
master’s degree from the Curtis Institute of Music and the
Juilliard School respectively. She will continue her studies
in music at Rice University as a doctoral student this fall.
Szuyu recently won the 2023 Solo Piano Competition at the
Music Academy of the West. She is a recipient of the CHIMEI
Arts Award and the second prize winner at the 2022
Mieczyslaw Munz Piano Competition. In 2012, Szuyu took Third
Prize at Steinway Piano Competition and made her debut with
orchestra at the winners’ concert. In the same year, she
also won First Prizes in 3 categories at American Protégé
and performed at Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall. In 2015, she
was awarded Semi-Final Prize at Leeds International Piano
competition, where she was invited by a jury member to
participate in the Oxford Piano Festival and perform with
Oxford Philharmonic orchestra. In 2019, she won Second Prize
and best mazurka performance at Beijing Chopin Piano
competition. She participated in the 2021 Warsaw Chopin
International Piano Competition and advanced to the second
stage. Since then, she has been invited to play with
orchestras and give recitals in major venues.
Jessica Yuma, Canada

Yuma began piano lessons at the age of 3 and completed both
the Associateship (ARCT) and Licentiate (LRCM) Performance
Diplomas from the Royal Conservatory of Music by age 11. She
has won numerous prizes in provincial, national and
international competitions. Recent accomplishments include
1st prize at the Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Competition in
Washington, the CMC National Final; the Steinway Young
Artists Competition, the CFMTA National Final, the Honors
Competition at the New England Conservatory, the 3rd prize
at the Orford Music Award, and Canadian Chopin Competition.
She also participated in the 18th International Chopin
Competition in 2021 in Warsaw, Poland. Over the years,
Jessica has worked with the National Arts Center Orchestra,
Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra,
Calgary Civic Symphony Orchestra, the Brunesis Virtuosi
Orchestra in Italy, and a few others. She has appeared on
the stage of the Winspear Centre, Jack Singer Hall, Southam
Hall, Jordan Hall, Steinway Hall and Carnegie Hall. She has
also participated in several music festivals, such as the
Morningside Music Bridge, Aspen Music Festival, Orford Music
Academy, the Young Artists Program in Ottawa, Music Fest
Perugia in Italy and Coimbra World Piano Meeting in
Portugal. In 2020, she was selected as one of the top “30
Under 30” Canadian Classical Musicians by CBC Radio and had
a live broadcast with CBC Edmonton. In September 2020,
Jessica began her undergraduate studies at the New England
Conservatory of Music in Boston, in the studios of Alessio
Bax and Bruce Brubaker.
Helaine Zhao, USA

Zhao, 17, was born and raised in Irvine, California. She
started piano lessons at five and currently studies with Mr.
Rufus Choi at Salit Conservatory of Music.
Helaine has participated in numerous international,
national, and regional competitions. Most recently, she was
selected into the Music Teachers’ Association of California
Young Artist Guild, won 2nd Prize at the LA Liszt
International Piano Competition and Best Mephisto Waltz
Performance, 3rd Prize at the Arthur Fraser International
Piano Competition, Best Contemporary Piece and Audience
Choice Award at the Claudette Sorel Piano Competition, and
1st Prize at OC Steinway Rising Stars Piano Competition.
Helaine was also named 2022 National YoungArts Merit Winner,
three-time State Winner at MTAC Piano Concerto and Solo
Competition, and CAPMT 1st Prize winner in Concerto and
Contemporary Competition with Andrys Basten Scholarship
Award.
In addition, Helaine performed in various concert halls
including Winifred Concert Hall, Segerstrom Concert Hall,
Thayer Hall at Colburn School, and Walt Disney Concert Hall.
She has also performed twice at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall.
She made her orchestral debut at the age of 10 with the SYMF
Orchestra and was also a featured piano soloist with OC
Collective Orchestra, OCSA Symphony Orchestra, PA Foundation
Orchestra, LA Youth Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, and the
Redlands Bowl Symphony Orchestra.
Helaine has performed in masterclasses for many renowned
pianists, including Oxana Yablonskaya, Eduardo Delgado,
Alexander Kobrin, Ning An, Bernadene Blaha, Dr. Paul
Sanchez, Dmitry Rachmanov.
Helaine enjoys serving others and has consistently performed
at senior centers with Music Students’ Service League since
2012. She has also organized and performed in several
fundraising concerts, including a solo fundraising concert
for this year’s Turkey and Syria earthquake which
successfully raised $3055. Outside of music, Helaine enjoys
reading books, writing, baking, hiking with her family, and
playing with her pet birds.
Hang Zhong, China

Hang Zhong is pursuing his Master of Music at New England
Conservatory, studying with Doctor Bruce Brubaker. He has
performed with NEC Wind Ensemble, Juilliard Orchestra, New
Juilliard Ensemble, Central Conservatory Chamber Orchestra,
and played solo and chamber recitals in New York, Tianjin,
Hefei, Chengdu, Shanghai, Changshu and Dali. Hang has also
been awarded among many competitions domestically and
internationally, including Semi-finalist of the
International Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Utrecht
(2020), the winner of the Juilliard Concerto Competition in
New York (2019), 4th place in Golden Bell National Piano
Competition for Young Pianists in China (2015), the 1st
place in Cooper Festival Piano Competition in Oberlin
(2015), and the 4th place in CCTV National Piano Competition
in China (2014). Additionally, he was awarded scholarship
10000 yuan by Yamaha Music&Electronics China for his amazing
performance in the scholarship selection competition.
Hang began to study the piano at the age of 4 with his
mother Litao Fu. He graduated from The Juilliard School in
2022 with a B.M. degree where he studied with Doctor Yoheved
Kaplinsky.
