 Winner
of the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition in
2010, violinist Xiang Yu is regarded as one of today’s most talented and
creative young violinists.. His astonishing technique, distinctive
sound, and exceptional musicality have won him consistent critical
acclaim (the Strad, String magazine, Boston Globe, ) and enthusiastic
audience response worldwide for his solo recitals, orchestral
engagements, and chamber music performances.
In addition to winning the Menuhin Competition, including the Bach Prize
and Audience prize, Xiang also won 2nd prize in the Wieniawski
International Violin Competition (2006) as the youngest prize winner;
3rd prize in the Michael Hill International Violin Competition (2011);
2nd prize and the Best Commissioned Work Prize in the 25th Irving M.
Klein International String Competition; and 1st prize and the Best
Chamber Music Performance prize of the Baden-Württemberg International
Music Competition (2005).
Last season, Xiang made his debut with the Pittsburgh Symphony
Orchestra, captivating audiences with playing that combines passion and
purity of interpretation. He also appeared as a soloist with the
Auckland Symphony Orchestra, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Munich
Chamber Orchestra, Norwegian Broadcasting Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony
Orchestra, Young-Euro Classic Orchestra, and the Oslo Philharmonic
Orchestra. The highlight of his next season includes his debut in the
Boston Symphony Hall with Hugh Wolff.
As an active recitalist, Xiang has performed more than 20 concerts in
venues throughout the world, including Konzerthaus Berlin (Germany),
Shanghai Grand Theatre, National Center For The Performing Arts (China),
Wienawski Hall (Poland), the Grand Theatre of Calgary (Canada), Victoria
Concert Hall (Singapore), Oslo Opera House & Troldsalen Bergen (Norway),
Auckland Town Hall (New Zealand), Louvre Museum Auditorium (France),
Bennett-Gordon Hall, Heinz Hall, and Jordan Hall (USA).
Xiang is also an enthusiastic chamber musician. Since the age of
fourteen, he has regularly performed in chamber music concerts in China
with repertoire ranging from Joseph Haydn to Alfred Schnittke. His Xiang
Quartet not only won the 1st prize in the Bode Cup Chamber Music
Competition, but also premiered many contemporary chamber music
masterpieces in China, including Ullmann’s String Quartet No.3 and
Hartmann’s String Quartet No.1.
Xiang has been invited to numerous world-renowned summer festivals such
as Kronberg Academy (Germany), Verbier Academy (Switzerland), Yellow
Barn Festival (USA), Bergen Festival (Norway), Perlman Chamber Music
Program (USA), Morningside Music Bridge (Canada), and the Steans
Institute for Young Artists at the Ravinia Festival(USA). He has
collaborated with such artists as Walter Levin, Zakhar Bron, Ana
Chumachenco, Mihaela Martin, Pamela Frank, Paul Katz, Ida Kavafian, Igor
Ozim, Frans Helmerson, and Christian Tetzlaff.
Born in Inner Mongolia, Xiang moved to Shanghai at the age of 11 and
received his early training from violinist Qing Zheng at the Shanghai
Conservatory. A recipient of the Irene M. Stare Scholarship in Violin
and a full scholarship, Xiang is a candidate for NEC’s Artist Diploma as
the only instrumentalist in the prestigious program. He is studying with
Donald Weilerstein and Kim Kashkashian and serves as the teaching
assistant for Donald Weilerstein.

Zhou Yi
易舟, cellist
 Zhou Yi began study cello at age six, and received her Bachelor
and Master of Degrees at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music
where she had studied cello with Professor Min Cao. She received
a full scholarship to attend Mannes College the New School for
Music under the Professional Studies Diploma Program in 2009,
and studied cello with Professor Marcy Rosen. She also studied
at the Hamburg Conservatory of Music for one year in 2007. She
currently attends the New England Conservatory and studies cello
with Professor Laurence Lesser.
She performed Schumann concerto with the Mannes Orchestra as her
New York debut at the Lincoln Center in February 2012. She had
appeared as soloist with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra in
2010, and has performed Saint-Saens concerto in a minor with
both the Mannes Community Orchestra and the St. Thomas Orchestra
in 2010. She had performed Haydn concerto in C major with the
Shanghai Conservatory Chamber Orchestra in 2009, Elgar concerto
in E-minor and Schumann concerto in A minor with the Xiamen
Philharmonic Orchestra in 2004 and 2005. She has appeared as an
active solo and chamber musician in the Marlboro Music Festival,
Yellow Barn Music Festival, Shanghai Spring International Music
Festival and the Beijing Contemporary Music Festival.
She performed the cello suite Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon
by Tan Dun with the Shanghai Philharmonic and conducted by Mu
Hai Tang in 2009, which received enthusiastic praise from the
composer and the concert audience alike. She recorded an album
of Distinguished Chinese Cello Pieces which features the music
of six Chinese composers. The album was released by the Shanghai
Music Publishing House in 2008.

Yinfei Wang
(王寅飛), pianist
 Yinfei
Wang began his piano studies in Shanghai at the age of four. Shortly
thereafter, he was awarded top prizes in several national competitions
in China. He made his first public appearance at the age of 7 in the
Shanghai Concert Hall. Since then, he has performed throughout China,
Singapore and the United States. His accomplishments include the top
prizes in the 2005 Sandner Cross-Taiwan Straight Piano Competition, the
2007 Shanghai Conservatory of Music Piano Competition, the 2009 Jacob
Flier International Piano Competition, the 2011 Miecyslaw Munz
Competition at Manhattan School of Music, the 2011 Shande Ding Piano
Competition in Shanghai and 2012 5 towns piano competition in New York.
He made his orchestral debut as soloist in the Chopin f minor Concerto
with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro
Vladimir Feltsman. In the spring of 2010, Yinfei was chosen to perform
the Mozart Concerto in d minor (K.466) with the Manhattan School of
Music Symphony Orchestra under the baton of the renowned
pianist/conductor Phillipe Entremont.
An avid chamber musician, Mr. Wang was chosen as a winner of the annual
Lilian Fuchs Memorial Chamber Music Competition three times at the
Manhattan School of Music. Mr. Wang has also attended numerous music
festivals, including the International Piano Festival in Shanghai
Conservatory of Music, Music Festival at Walnut Hill in Boston, and
PianoSummer at New Paltz International Institute and Festival.
Mr. Wang received his Bachelor’s degree from the Shanghai Conservatory
of Music, his Master’s degree and Professional Studies Certificate from
the Manhattan School of Music as a student of Mr. Phillip Kawin. He is
currently in the Doctoral Program at Manhattan School of Music, where he
is continuing his studies with Mr. Phillip Kawin.

Betty
Zhang (張星),
pianist
Xing Zhang, born in Shanxi, China, attended from the Middle
School Attached to Central Conservatory of Music. She graduated
from Walnut Hill School of the Arts in Natick, MA and is
pursuing her Piano Performance Degree at the Boston Conservatory
under Ya-Fei Chuang.
Xing has won prizes for solo and four hands, including The 6th
International Piano Competition of Austria in Vienna and won the
first-prize at 13-17 age-groups, the first prize of the High
School Achievement Awards of The Harvard Musical Association.
She was one of the finalists of the Boston Conservatory all
instrumental concerto competition in 2010, the finalist of
Camerata Virtuosi New Jersey Young Artists Competition in 2012,
the first prize (Duet group with her sister, Chen Zhang) at Hong
Kong the 3rd International Piano Competition in 2004. In 2007,
she was invited to perform at the “Music Naturally Summer
Festival” at Pennsylvania Academy of Music. In 2010 and 2011,
she attended to the international summer academy at Mozarteum in
Salzburg and had performed in the Wiener Hall. (2013)
