Sunmin Kim, a pianist and composer, was born in South Korea and began his piano journey at the age of 10. He attended the Yewon School of Arts and Seoul Arts High School, studying under Kyung-Ah Kim. In 2019, at the age of 17, he moved to Boston to pursue further studies at the New England Conservatory of Music, where he studied with HaeSun Paik. After completing his Bachelor's degree in Boston, he moved to New York in 2023 and is currently studying at the Juilliard School with Maestro Sergei Babayan.

Sunmin has been awarded numerous prizes in prestigious piano competitions in Korea, including the Ewha-Kyunghyang Competition, the Korean Liszt Society Competition, the Yewon Competition, the Sungjung Music Competition, and more. He has also achieved success in international competitions such as the Fou Ts'ong International Concerto Competition, the Asia International Piano Competition, and the Korea-Asia Piano Open Competition. Sunmin was a recipient of the Tan Family Foundation Scholarship during his studies at the New England Conservatory.

As an active soloist, Sunmin has performed and given recitals at Jordan Hall, Williams Hall in Boston, Kumho Art Hall, Yamaha Concert Salon in Seoul, and Seongnam Arts Center, among others. Internationally, he has been invited to several concert series, such as the Pianissimo Summer Festival Recital Series in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Nizhny Novgorod; the Kumho Young Artist Series hosted by the Kumho Cultural Foundation; and the annual recital series hosted by the SunByungMoon Scholarship Foundation. In addition to solo endeavors, Sunmin has showcased his artistry in chamber performances at various distinguished venues. He has also participated in prestigious festivals including the New Paltz Piano Summer, Asia International Piano Academy Festival, and Seoul Piano Academy, and attended master classes with with Alessio Bax, Alexander Korsantia, Antti Siirala, Lliya Zilberstein, Nelson Delle-Vigne Fabbri, and Jinsang Lee.

Sunmin's talent extends beyond the piano; as a choral composer, he has collaborated with J&A Music, one of the major choral music publishers in Korea, and has been featured in recordings by the Park's Choir, the chamber choir of Ansan City Choir (led by Dr. Shin-wha Park). His compositions have been featured during the annual seminar by the Korea Church Music Association and have been premiered by Ryul Chamber Choir, Seoul Vocal Artists, SaRang Church Hallelujah Choir and Orchestra, and FKCC Choir and Orchestra. By Beckenhorst Press, a prestigious choral music publisher in the US, his work will also be published and released as part of an EP recording by the Beckenhorst Singers, led by Craig Courtney and Dan Forrest later this year. Currently, Sunmin contributes his skills as an orchestra arranger at SaRang Church under the guidance of Dr. Kisun Lee.
