Pianist and conductor Lucas Amory is enrolled in Harvard University
and New England Conservatory’s dual degree Solo repertoire, as a
Piano Performance major in the studio of Hae-Sun Paik. A 2020
Presidential Scholar of the Arts Semifinalist and National Young
Arts Foundation Finalist in Classical Music, Lucas is also a past
winner of the Lyra Music Young Artists Competition, the Claudette
Sorel Piano Competition, and a two-time winner of NEC’s Honor
Recital Competition. He has performed at the 92nd St.Y, Carnegie’s
Weill Recital Hall, and multiple times at Alice Tully Hall. Among
many summer festivals, he has attended Music Academy of the West,
Morningside Music Bridge, Yellow Barn, and Aspen. In his down time,
he acquaints himself with opera, sightreads with friends, and enjoys
watching baseball.

Praised by the New York Times for his “graceful touch,” “rhythmic
precision,” and “hypnotic charm,” pianist Han Chen has established
himself in both the classical music and contemporary music worlds
with his versatile Solo repertoireming and effortless technique.
Since winning the Gold Medal at the 2013 China International Piano
Competition, Chen has gained an international recognition and
released three solo albums under the Naxos label, featuring music by
Franz Liszt, Anton Rubinstein, and Thomas Adès.
As a soloist, Chen has appeared with numerous orchestras, including
the Calgary Philharmonic, Fort Worth Symphony, Lexington
Philharmonic, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Macao Orchestra, National
Taiwan Symphony, China Symphony, Xiamen Philharmonic, Sendai
Philharmonic, to name a few. Chen has worked with renowned
conductors such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Karina Canellakis, Nicholas
McGegan, Simon Rattle.
An advocate for new music, Mr. Chen actively performs music of our
time. He has worked with eminent composers such as Thomas Adès,
Unsuk Chin, Helmut Lachenmann, Lei Liang and Nina Young, given world
premieres of works by Chin, Molly Joyce, Jonah Haven, among others.
He is a member of the New York-based groups Ensemble Échappé and
PinkNoise Ensemble. His online series Migration Music consists of
interviews and performances featuring immigrant composers, with
support from the Metropolis Ensemble.
Born in Taiwan, Mr. Chen graduated from The Juilliard School and the
New England Conservatory, studying with Prof. Yoheved Kaplinsky and
Prof. Wha Kyung Byun. He is now a doctoral candidate at the CUNY
Graduate Center with Prof. Kaplinsky and Prof. Ursula Oppens.
Boyuan Cheng
程柏淵 (age 22, China)

Boyuan Cheng, 22, started learning piano at the age of four. At the
age of twelve, he was accepted into the Shanghai Music Middle School
Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music, ranking first out of
all auditionees. There, he studied with pianist Zhou Ting. Boyuan
has enjoyed various accomplishments in his career — in 2016, Boyuan
received second prize in the 10th Moscow International Chopin Piano
Competition for Young Pianists, appreciated by all the jury members
including Dang Thai Son, Katarzyna Popowa. He has also received
scholarships from the Junyuan Tang Education Foundation and Shanghai
Literary and Art Talent Fund.
Boyuan has also performed with numerous orchestras in China,
including the Xiamen Symphony Orchestra and the Shanghai
Philharmonic Orchestra. With these orchestras, he performed great
concertos such as Beethoven’s Third and Fifth Concerto, Chopin’s
First Concerto, and Rachmaninoff’s Second Concerto.
He also held 9 recitals, including some well-known concert halls in
China such as Beijing National Grand Theater, Shanghai Concert hall
and so on. Boyuan recently received his bachelor’s degree from the
Juilliard School and studied with pianist Hung-Kuan Chen. In the
fall, he will be starting his master’s degree under the tutelage of
pianist Dang Thai Son at the New England Conservatory of Music.
Po-Wei Ger

Born on December 6th, 1995. Pianist Po-Wei Ger graduated from the
Master of Musical Arts degree in Yale School of Music, under the
guidance of Dr. Melvin Chen in 2021, and will enroll in the Doctor
of Musical Arts degree in Manhattan School of Music this fall, under
the tutelage of Dr. Solomon Mikowsky.
Po-Wei began studying piano with Ms. Jia-li Shu at the age of seven.
At the age of ten, he further continued his study with Dr. Ming-Hui
Lin, piano faculty of the National Taiwan Normal University. He has
participated in the Annual Walnut Hill Music Festival in 2009, 2011.
He was also honored to perform in the prizewinner concert of the
Mozarteum University Summer Academy in 2012, as part of the Solo
repertoire of Salzburg Festival. During his Bachelor of Music degree
study, Po-Wei collaborated with the Cuban National Symphony
Orchestra in 2015 and 2016. In April 2021, Po-Wei won the 2nd Prize,
Chamber Music Prize, and the Audience Prize of the Premio Jaén
competition in Spain.
An avid chamber musician, Po-Wei has played in masterclasses of
prestigious musicians such as Mr. Gilbert Kalish. He and his
friends, Chao-Chih Chen and Tzu-Wei Huang, formed the clarinet trio
– Trio Astralis, and won the Youth Chamber Music Solo repertoire of
the Eslite Bookstore, the leading bookstore chain in Taiwan. He has
performed in the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival in 2019, Taos School
of Music in New Mexico, 2021, and will return to the Norfolk Chamber
Music Festival in 2022.

Praised
as an “artist of enormous prowess” (Verbier Festival
Newsletter) with “lots of clarity, confidence, and wisdom”
(New York Concert Review), pianist Sahun Sam Hong brings his
colorful style and riveting energy to the solo, chamber, and
concerto stage.
Hong was the winner of the 2017 Vendome Prize at Verbier,
and received Second Prize at the 2017 International
Beethoven Competition Vienna. He was also a recipient of a
2021 American Pianists Award, and finalist in the 2018
International German Piano Award and 2017 American Pianists
Awards.
On the roster of Young Steinway Artists since 2010, Hong has
been featured as a guest soloist with orchestras including
ORF-Vienna, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Camerata New York, Fort
Worth, Richardson, Racine, Waco, Galveston, and Brazos
Valley Symphony. He has performed in prestigious venues such
as Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall, Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully
Hall, the Vienna Musikverein, Église de Verbier, Merkin
Hall, and the Kennedy Center.
In addition to performing, Hong is a prolific arranger of
chamber music and orchestral works. His innovative
transcriptions are performed all over the world. The chamber
music collective ensemble132 presents Hong’s creative
chamber music transcriptions on annual tours throughout the
United States.
At the age of 16, Hong graduated magna cum laude from Texas
Christian University (TCU) with a Bachelor of Music degree
in Piano Performance, studying with John Owings. He also
studied for six years with Leon Fleisher at the Peabody
Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. Hong continues
his studies with Yong Hi Moon at Peabody.
Nan Ni
倪楠
(age 23, China)

Nan Ni was born in Anhui, China. She began studying piano at the age
of five. At 10, she was admitted to the Music Middle School
affiliated with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music studying under
Natalia Filippova. She graduated from the New England Conservatory
in 2021 with a Bachelor of Music and is continuing at NEC for her
master’s degree with Bruce Brubaker, chair of the Piano Department.
Nan won first prize at the Los Angeles Young Musician International
Piano Competition, third prize at the Conero International Piano
Competition, second prize at the Shenzhen Piano Open Competition and
is a three-time winner of the Piano Department Honors Competition at
NEC. A recipient of the Tan Family Grant Scholarship at NEC, she was
also awarded a Shanghai Government Scholarship and Niu Ende Piano
Music Scholarship and won the Audience Award at the winners’
concert.
Nan has participated in many prestigious music festivals including
the Summer Academy Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Music Academy of
the West, at which she was awarded the 2020 Sharon and David
Bradford Full Scholarship and 2021 Hyon Chough and Maurice Singer
Full Scholarship in solo piano. She has taken master classes from
Arie Vardi, Jeremy Denk, and Dmitry Alexeev, among other
distinguished musicians.
Nan is also an organist studying under Thomas Handel at NEC. She has
performed as a solo organist at the Church of the Covenant in
Boston, as well as with the NEC concert choir and chamber singers.
As an active chamber musician, she and her fellow chamber music
partners have won the first prize in the Chamber Music Competition
at Shanghai Conservatory.
Peter Yide Shi
石以德 (age 20, China)

Peter Yide Shi, currently a student of Professor Meng-Chieh Liu in
New England Conservatory, started his journey with piano at the age
of five. When he was nine, he started his professional music study
with Professor Chang at Central Conservatory of Primary School in
Beijing. Shortly after that he was accepted to Central Conservatory
of Middle School at the age of twelve.
He has appeared in many festivals and venues, including the Oxford
Philharmonic Piano Festival, PYPA Festival in Philadelphia, Miami
International Piano Festival, Salle Cortot in Paris, Jacqueline du
Pre Music Hall in Oxford, Zhonghuilou Concert Hall in Beijing, Field
Concert Hall of Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Adolfo
and Marisela Cotilla Gallery in Miami and AOVA Concert Hall in
Philadelphia.
He is also a winner of multiple important piano competitions. His
major prizes include the 2nd prize in National Xinghai Piano
Competition, the 3rd prize in National Pearl River Kayserburg Piano
Competition Amateur Group Three in Guangzhou, the 5th in National
CCTV Piano and Violin Competition in Beijing, the 2nd in the
International Philadelphia Piano Competition Group A in
Philadelphia.
Hongzhen Wang

Chinese pianist Hongzhen Wang was born in 1997 in Shenyang, China.
He began playing the piano at the age of five. In 2015, he graduated
from the Middle Music School Affiliate of Shenyang Conservatory
under the guidance of Prof. Danwen Wei, Chair of the Piano
Department at Central Conservatory in Beijing. He completed both B.M.
and M.M. degrees with academic honors from New England Conservatory
under the tutelage of Prof. Bruce Brubaker, Chair of the Piano
Department. Currently, Hongzhen continues his D.M.A. degree with
Prof. Brubaker at NEC as a Tan Family Foundation Scholarship and
Emil Danenberg Scholarship recipient.
He has been featured as a soloist and chamber musician at major
venues such as Jordan Hall in Boston, Meany Center for the
Performing Arts in Seattle, Shalin Liu Performance Center in
Rockport, and Casa Da Música in Porto. Recent performances include
NEC Piano Department Concert Series at Jordan Hall in January 2022,
Connections-Chamber Music Series at Plimpton Shattuck Black Box
Theater in October 2021, and the 250th Anniversary Celebration of
Beethoven at Jordan Hall in 2020. His piano trio performance at
Jordan Hall was selected and broadcasted by Music for Food in May
2021 and he was also invited by music festivals such as Aspen and
Walnut Hill.
Recent years, he also won top prizes in competitions such as
American International Piano Competition in Washington D.C., BSO
Pops Concerto Competition, PSA Young Artist Competition, BMI
International Music Competition, and NEC Piano Honors Competition.

Ravel: Scarbo from Gaspard de la nuit Alice Chenyang Xu has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in
Germany, USA, Canada, and throughout China. Notable concerts include
performances at Chicago Symphony Hall, the Dame Myra Hess Memorial
Concert Series at the Chicago Cultural Center, Chicago Auditorium
Theatre, Corbett Auditorium in Cincinnati, Hochschule Musik Hall in
Leipzig, Germany, and Jordan Hall in Boston. Xu has collaborated
with Borromeo String Quartet and members of the Cleveland Quartet,
violinist Anthony Marwood, cellists John Myerscough and Bonnie
Hampton, soprano Lucy Shelton, baritone William Sharp, and pianist
Christina Dahl. She has coached with composer George Crumb on his
set of piano works, Makrokosmos, and has played for former Secretary
of State Colin Powell under the auspices of the Eisenhower
Fellowship at the Northeast Asia Regional Solo repertoire Seminar.
She was invited to give a lecture recital at The Consulate General
of the United States, Chengdu in 2019.
She was a recipient of the Dorothy Hinton-Congleton Memorial
Presidential Scholarship, second prize-winner of the 10th Missouri
Southern International Piano Competition, third prize-winner of the
2nd SEILER International Piano Competition in Germany. She graduated
from the Curtis Institute of Music and Roosevelt University and is
currently a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at New England
Conservatory of Music. Xu studied with Vivian Weilerstein, Seth
Knopp, Wha-Kyung Byun, Meng-Chieh Liu, Winston Choi and Seymour
Lipkin.

Sunny Lin Kai Zhang began his musical training at the age of three.
When he was five, Lin Kai was invited to perform at the Beijing
Concert Hall. In the same year, he was invited by Dr. Guangren Zhou
to perform in the recital of celebrating F. Chopin's 200th
anniversary.
His achievements in international competitions include: First Prize
and Gold medal at the Seattle International Piano Competition; First
prize at the Carmel Clavier International Piano competition in Solo
and Concerto categories; First prize at Orbetello International
Piano Competition; First prize at Pacific International Piano
Competition; New York Young Performer’s Prize first place winner,
etc.
As a soloist, Lin Kai performed in venues such as Steinway Hall,
Carnegie Hall, Benaroya Hall, Chan Centre, Beijing Concert Hall,
Gateway theatre, Bell Centre, etc. When he was sixteen, he performed
the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor with the Vancouver
Opera Orchestra. Lin Kai performed multiple concertos with local
orchestras and the Rimsky-Korsakov String Quartet. He also performed
multiple concertos with Grosseto Symphony Orchestra in Italy.
He participated in International Masterclasses in the United States,
France, Italy and Germany, taking classes with renowned professors
such as Gary Graffman, Veda Kaplinsky, Matti Raekallio, Ignat
Solzhenitsyn, Susan Starr, Lydia Artymiw, Elanor Sokoloff, Antonio
Pompa-Baldi, Alexander Braginsky, Rena Shereshevskaya, etc.
Sunny Lin Kai Zhang was a student at the Juilliard Pre-College and
will continue his piano performance studies at Juilliard this fall,
studying under Hung-Kuan Chen and Tema Blackstone.
Sunny Lin Kai Zhang is a Steinway Young Artist.
