In memory of Fou Ts'ong's 傅聰 visits  to Boston and NYC during 1993 -2007   - A Photo Tribute


During 1993 to 2007, the Foundation for Chinese Performing Arts had the great honor presenting Mr. Fou Ts'ong 傅聰 in 9 concerts and master classes at New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall and Carnegie Hall Issac Stern Auditorium. These concerts were enthusiastically received by packed audience and to critical acclaims.

Mr. Fou normally arrive one week early before his recital and stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Lena and Yu-Sing Jung 鍾耀星 to adjust the jet lag. During those days, Boston area scholars and musicians gathered around him for dinner or tea to talk about literature, arts, music, history, philosophy, and much more in a relaxed and casual setting. Studio students of Mr. Russell Sherman and Ms. Wha Kyung Byun, many of them are great musicians now, were also invited to experience the most inspiring conversation that one could ever imaging.

We wished that we could record some of the conversation, but doubtfully that would be allowed. Photos were not easy most of the time. Mr. Fou does not like anything rigid or formal. Everything has to be spontaneous and natural. We found a few photos and shared here in his memory.

Mr. Fou's father Fou Lei 傅雷 once said, and he followed it faithfully all his life, that “It is most important to be a decent human being, then an artist, then a musician, and the last is a good pianist.” A great human being Mr. Fou was. His legacy shall live on forever.
