Maxwell Li, Vocalist Maxwell Li’s glorious voice gained him a place in the winner’s circle of the Luciano Pavarotti International Vocal Competition in Philadelphia. Mr. Pavarotti was so impressed that he asked Mr. Li to rehearse the orchestra in his place, and he was then offered the opportunity to understudy Mr. Pavarotti’s next role. As a winner of the International Vocal Competition of the Licia Albanese/ Puccini Foundation, Mr. Li performed in Lincoln Center at Alice Tully Hall in the Opera Highlights Concert. His other awards include winner of The Opera Index Voice Competition, winner of The MacAllister Awards Competition, and finalist of The Metropolitan Opera Council National Audition New York Region. Mr. Li embarked on a performing career following graduation from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Mr. Li studied voice and opera at Boston Conservatory and New England Conservatory in Boston, while a graduate student, made his America debut as Don Jose in Carmen. Mr. Li has a distinctive lyric voice with strong dramatic potential and a dark attractive timbre. He has developed his career through successful performances of the principal roles of Turandot, Aida, La Boheme, Carmen, Lucia Di Lamermoor, Cavalleria Rusticana, Nabucco and Un Ballo in Maschera. Mr. Li has appeared with such companies as Washington Opera, Hawaii Opera Theater, Tampa Bay Opera, Queens Opera Boston Bel Canto Opera, Mobile Opera and New York City Opera. This season Mr. Li made his debut with Ocean Lyric Opera as Don Jose in Carmen. In addition, he will participate in a large number of solo and joint concerts and recitals. In 1999, Mr. Li's sung the roles of Calaf in Turandot, Radames in Aida both again at Boston’s Jordan Hall. Also, Mr. Li sang Radames for Sioux City Symphony’s production of Aida. Mr. Li made his European debut with Teatro Lirico d’Europa Touring France, Germany and Spain, and as a busy recitalist, Mr. Li has given numerous concerts in New York City, including Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall and has performed in New Jersey, New Hampshire, Boston, Tampa, West Palm beach, China, Hong Kong, Macedonia, Canada and Germany. Maxwell Li reprised the role of Calaf in TURANDOT in Germany 2008. Mr. Li has been very active in China since 2004, he has given concerts and master classes in many cities of China, which including Shanghai, Beijing, Harbin and Chendu, and one of his opera gala performance has been broadcasted on CCTV’s classic music channel. 6 Coburn Drive.
