Minsoo Sohn Bio

Described as an artist who will create life in music, find listeners, and reward them.(Boston Globe). The young Korean pianist has been a prize winner in numerous international competitions. Most recently, Mr. Sohn was awarded second prize in the Cleveland International Piano Competition, first prize in the Hilton Head International Piano Competition, as well as third prize in the Busoni International Piano Competition, where he also received the special Busoni Prize. Additional honors include Laureates of the Queen Elizabeth International Competition and the Santander International Piano Competition , second prize in the St. Louis Symphony Competition, and first prize in the Jungang and Chopin Competitions in Seoul.

Mr. Sohn has performed with such orchestras as the Boston Symphony Orchestra ,the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Royal Chamber orchestra of Wallonia, the Real Philharmonia de Galicia , the Cleveland Chamber Orchestra, the New Hampshire Symphony Orchestra, the Tallahassee symphony Orchestra, the Bellevue Philharmonic Orchestra , the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestra Haydn of Bolzano and Trento , as well as several appearances in Korea . In 1996, he performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in "Salute to Symphony" concerts, which were subsequently broadcast on national television. His other performances have also been broadcast on National public Radio.

In recital, Mr. Sohn has appeared on Jordan Hall's "Centennial Concert Series", Spain's the Palacio de Festivalle, Italy's the Academia Cusano and Monteverdi Hall, New Hampshire's Monadnock Festival and Currier Museum of Art , Boston's the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum and Harvard Musical Association as well as recent recitals in Belgium and Spain.

Minsoo Sohn was born in Korea and educated mostly in the United States, beginning piano studies at age three. He has studied with Russell Sherman and Wha Kyung Byun at the New England Conservatory since 1995.
