The Artists:
David Sung-Chan Chang, cello David Chang, age 14, is a student of Andre Emelianoff at the Juilliard Pre-College. He was the first prize winner of both the 2000 Seoul City Orchestra Competition, and the National Music Competition South Korea. He is going to participate in the 4th International Junior Tchaikovsky Competition to be held in China, October 2002.
Alice Chen, piano A senior at the High School Division of the Taiwan Normal University, Alice Chen was the first prize winner of the 2001 Taipei City Piano Competition, and the third prize winner of the 2002 Taiwan Piano Competition. She is also going to participate in the International Junior Tchaikovsky Competition to be held in China, October, 2002.
Julia Yu-Chen Chiu, viola: is a 10th grader of the High School division of Taiwan Normal University, majoring in viola and minor in piano.
Shirley Li-Chun Chen, piano and flute: Age 16, Shirley Chen is a 10th grader of the Chung-Cheng Senior High School in Taiwan, majoring in piano and minor in flute.
Camilla Tian-Yuh Hou, piano: Age 16, Camilla is a 10th grader at the Tainan Girl's High School, majoring in piano.
Hanna JiSu Kim, piano Sixteen-year-old Hanna Kim won the first prize in the 2001 Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey. She is a 10th grader at Ridgefield Park High School in New Jersey. She is a student at the Foundation for Chinese Performing Arts' summer festival at Walnut Hill.
Cici An-Hui Lai, French Horn, is a junior at the Taipei National University of the Arts.
Anne Ying-Chieh Lee, violin: Age 16, Anne Lee is a sophomore at the High School Division of the National Taiwan Normal University, majoring in violin and minor in piano. She was the winner of the 2001 Taipei City South District Violin Competition, and also the winner of the 1999 Taipei City East Region Violin Competition.
Anita Hsiao-Ling Lin, piano and flute A junior at the New England Conservatory of Music majoring in piano.
Monty Yi-Hsin Lin, violin Age 16, Monty Lin is a sophomore at the High School Division of the National Taiwan Normal University, majoring in violin and minor in piano. He was the finalist of 2000 Taiwan Music Competition.
Sophia Yu-Lin Liu, violin Age 16, Sophia is a sophomore at the National Tainan Girl's Senior High School majoring in violin and minor in piano. She was the winner of the 2002 Tainan Music Competition, and the winner of the Tainan City Violin Competition.
Jin-Hee Park, cello Jinhee Park, age 16, began her cello lessons at the age of nine with Seong-Eun Hong, Professor at Da-Kuk University in Korea. She was the winner of the 1996 Music Journal, and the 1997 Chosun Times Competition. In 1998 she was awarded a recital as the winner of the Kumho Prodigies Young Artist Audition. From 1997 through 1999, Jinhee performed as soloist with the Korea Symphony, the New Seoul Philharmonic, the Su-Won Philharmonic, the Bu-Cheon Youth Orchestra, and the VIenna Waltz Orchestra. She was invited to give a recital in the Gifted Young Artist Concert at the Korea Art Center. Jinhee moved to the United States in 1999 to attend the Juilliard Pre-College Division, where she studies with Harvey Shapiro and James Kreger. She is also a full-scholarship student at Barnstable Academy in New Jersey.
Jinhee was the alternate at the Pre-College Boccherini Concerto Competition in 2000. She was a member of the Perlman 2000 Summer Music Program. She has performed in various venues over the past year, including the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center and at Carnegie Hall. In December 2000, she performed a solo recital at Paul Recital Hall at the Juilliard School, and in March 2001 she played as a soloist with the Academic Symphony Orchestra at the John Harms Centerin New Jersey. In July 2001, Jinhee played a concert at the the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. She was a finalist in the New York Philharmonic Young Artist Competition in November 2001, and played with Juilliard Pre-college symphony as a soloist. She is going to participate in the 4th International Junior Tchaikovsky Competition to be held in China, October 2002.
Qian Qian Tang, piano Age 13, Qian Qian is a 8th grader at the Biglow Middle School in Newton. She was the first prize winner of the 2001MTNA Junior High Piano Competition, and the second place winner of the 2002 MTNA Estern Division Competition. She was chosen as a Young Scholar for the 2002 Jack Kent Cooker Foundation through Johns Hopkins University, Center for Talented Youth.
Ming-I Tsai, violin Seventeen-year-old Ming-I Tsai is a native of Taiwan and
first prize-winner of the 2002 Boston Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerto
Competition. She is a student of Lynn Chang and an honor junior at the Walnut
Hill School. Before she came to Boston, she attended Temple University Music
Prep's Center for Gifted Young Musicians. As winner of the 2000 Mann Center
Student Concerto Competition, Ming-I Tsai performed with the Philadelphia
Orchestra at age fifteen. She also won first prize in the 2001 Massachusetts
String Teachers Association Competition. Ming-I has been accepted to the Curtis
Institute of Music in Philadelphia. She is currently a student at the Foundation
for Chinese Performing Arts' summer festival at Walnut Hill.
