The Artist:

John John Tu has just won the first prize in The National Music Competition
in Canada last August (2000), where he represented the Province of Alberta in
piano and competed with other provincial winners from all across Canada. Mr
Tu is also the first-prize winner of the Boston University Concerto
Competition, New England Conservatory Preparatory School Concerto
Competition, and the 1997 Harvard Musical Association Achievement Award. In
the United States, Mr. Tu has performed at the Jordan Hall in Boston with the
New England Conservatory Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Benjamin
Zander, and the Tsai Performance Centre with the Boston University Symphony
Orchestra. In Canada, Mr. Tu has appeared with the Calgary Philharmonic
Orchestra, conducted by Rolf Bertsch, recitals at The Banff Centre for the
Art, The University of Calgary, and The Mount Royal Conservatory, and his
performances have been broadcasted on the CBC Radio. Mr. Tu will give a full
recital in The National Concert Hall in his native country, Taiwan, this
coming fall. He has been a scholarship student of John Perry at the Aspen
Music Festival, Anthony di Bonaventura at the Colby College, Maine, and
participated in master classes by Russell Sherman, Anton Kuerti, and Fou
Ts'ong.

A native of Taipei, Taiwan, Hsiang John Tu began his musical studies at age
5. He was the first-prize winner in the National Piano Competition Youth
Division in Taiwan before he moved to the United States at age 14. He
continued his study at the Idyllwild School for Music and the Arts in
California, where he studied with Nelms MacElvan, and the Walnut Hill School
in Natick, Massachusetts, with Hae-Sun Paik and Hung-Kuan Chen. Subsequently
Mr. Tu went to the Boston University for two years before coming to Canada
with his current teachers, Hung-Kuan Chen. Mr. Tu was a resident in The
Banff Centre for the Art during 1999-2000, and he is currently attending the
undergraduate program at the University of Calgary.
